The SANN Institute and Professor R. Igor Gamow, of the University of Colorado, are offering a summer course in Nepal. The course will consist of two weeks of lectures on High Altitude Physiology and include local field trips in the Kathmandu Valley. The second two weeks will be a Trek to Lo Manthang in the recently opened but still restricted area of Nepal, Mustang. The trek will begin at Jomsom and continue north along the Kali Ghandaki river to the hidden and sacred city of Lo Manthang (see map above). The map and several photographs shown here are taken from a beautiful book by Vanessa S. Boeye and Clara Marullo entitled "The Last Forbidden Kingdom- Mustang, Land of Tibetan Buddhism." Depending on available space the trek may be taken separately from the course. More infomation about Nepal in general and Mustang in particular can be found in Stan Armington's book "Trekking in the Nepal Himalaya" published by Lonely Planet.
